President

  • I am now certified as a trainer for the Laser and 3d printers. I will be holding regular intro classes, to coincide with Foto Friday. These are NOT full training classes, I will only be teaching the basic info needed to use the equipment safely and responsibly. Design, troubleshooting and advanced usage is not covered.
  • We have a meeting scheduled with a real estate broker to discuss options for expanding the Makerspace.
  • Special mention: Julio Nieto & Haley Moore - Cleaning and Organizing the Studio
  • Final timeline pending board approval: The next Board of Directors election should begin on Mar 13 at 7pm and end Mar 20 at 7pm, with Statements of Intent required to be posted on the wiki by Mar 6 at 7pm.

Committee Chairs

  • 3d Fabrication Committee - Andrew Falgout
    • Rostock Prisma: the project is currently where it needs to be calibrated, and is just waiting on someone to take the time to do so
    • Chairman Nomination: A call for nominations was done on the committee list, and Andrew Falgout was the only one nominated for the position (Documented on the List archies as of Jan 8, 2014)
    • Camera in the 3d Fab Area: A vote was cast for putting a camera in the 3d Fab area. The vote was 9 yes to 4 no. There was talk of a donated camera, but recently it has been brought to my attention that there is a particular model that security would like to see used. Going forward, it will be put to the committee membership how this camera should be financed as the filament fun cannot be used for this.
  • Amateur Radio Committee - Pat Hykkonen
    • We are planning for a amateur radio Technician license class beginning in March
      • Open to non-DMS members
      • Free, except for a $14 exam fee at the end of the course
      • There is some overlap with Mondays and the CCNA class
        • Are they any people taking CCNA that also want to take the Amateur Radio class?
        • If not, we will hold the classes on Monday
    • We are planning a Software Defined Radio hack session/seminar
      • Probably a Saturday in May
    • We are looking at reviving the Amateur Radio committee, anyone interested in joining please find Ben

  • Aerospace Committee - Romeo Espana
  • Automotive Committee - Luke Olson
    • A vehicle has been acquired and is being prepared for the 24 Hours of Lemons race (roll cage, fuel system, racing seat, DMS and NSA themed paint and decorations)
    • Non-essential components of the vehicle are being sold to help raise funds for the race
    • Aaron Leiter and Michael Lass have expressed interest in chairing the committee
    • $2,500 has been raised from the sale of a donated vehicle, thanks to everyone involved
  • Bio Committee - Andrew Floyd

    • VERMICULTURE HAS COME TO MAKERSPACE!
    • Sci-tech has invited me to teach a class on fermentation in a Biology You Can Eat presentation in March.
    • Basidia Mushroom's Package has arrived and we'll be trying to move mushrooms to the space ASAP.
  • Civic Hacking - Steve Rainwater
    • We'll have a February meeting at the space, date not set yet
    • Open Data Day 2014 hackathon is coming up on Feb 22 (we're considering a last-minute Dallas or DFW event - anyone want to help? contact me)
    • 2014 National Day of Civic Hacking is coming up in June. We will be joining the DFW area event this year. Event location will be coordinated with other hacker groups and Cities. Probably in mid-cities area again this year.
  • Classroom Committee - John Fields

  • Electronics Robotics Committee - Daniel Jackson
    • I've dontated two laptops to the electronics room to run equipment like the EEProm burner and logic analyzer.
    • Reminder: Basic electronics room equipment class this coming Saturday the 15th at 1pm in the electronics room.
    • A call for a committee chair was made at the last committee meeting, Daniel Jackson was the only nominee.
  • Financial Committee - Paul Brown
  • Foundry Committee - John Kuhlenschmidt
    • Got a reference book for the pottery/kin area
    • Having - How to View party on the Feb 19.
    • ---- How to Throw on the Potter's Wheel
  • Laser Committee - William Petefish
    • Solved an issue with the HV lead that had burned through. (replaced the wire)
    • Touch Screen has been installed. It is a resistive touch screen, so a bit of a push is needed to register a touch.
    • In the effort to get a regular class scheduled, We have deputized the President who has made an effort to get a regular class going when he can.
    • Reminder: You don't have to join the committee to be trained on how to use the laser.
    • Reminder: Don't save your work to the desktop of the computer. It WILL be erased. Save it in the proper folder in the Thawspace drive or the network drive.
    • Reminder: The laser committee does have a list. ([email protected]) USE IT if there is an issue with the laser. Don't try to repair it yourself.

  • Photography Lab (Darkroom Committee) - Nicole LeCody
    • Foto Friday's are in full swing. We have had great turn out to the last several events. We will be having a scanning party in the Monroe classroom on Friday Feb. 21st starting at 7:30. In the works are a couple of Photo Walks and some more developing days/printing demos.
