  • 3D Printers are up and running.
  • Room is functional; but, still needs work (waiting on tables, etc...).
  • Will be having a meeting soon - either in person and/or Google Hangouts (most likely Hangouts) - to discuss near future plans for 3D Fab.
  • New Digs! We will be setting up in the near future in the office by the garage doors in the workshop area (shared with Milling Committee)
  • New round of Amateur Radio Technician classes begin on July 28th
  • Taught by (Radio Jedi) Pat Hykkonen and (not-so-Jedi but enthusiastic) Benjamin Groves
  • We will follow with a General Radio Technician class in September
  • Amateur Radio Committee Meeting next Tuesday, July 15th in the Lecture Hall
  • Where we at? Where we going?
  • Open to all
  • New area needs to be moved into!
  • Worms, and aquaponics are at my house and we'll be moving them into the space as we establish them.
  • Meeting with Bill Finch, city of Dallas CIO, is still, on the table for this summer; date & time TBD
  • "NTx Apps Challenge" hackathon is kicking off on the 24th at the DEC in downtown Dallas; objectives include tackling several problems surrounding the region including water usage & smog.
  • starting to set up the Lecture Hall:
    • Starting motions to get a new screen
      • will return the green chairs to the column room when the new screen is properly set up.
    • working with John Fields to set up audio, took measurements last night.
  • waiting for the interactive classroom buildout to finish before setting up the twin TV monitors.
  • New room move-in close to complete, waiting on electrical.
  • Most of our small tools are available in the bin racks in Room 1.
  • Monday at 7 we'll host an exploratory meeting for an Audio/Visual special interest group.
  • Classes in the works include Vacuforming 101, Brass Electro Etching, Wide Format Printer Training, and CNC Embroidery Machine Training. We're also seeking teachers for AV related topics.
  • Waiting on room completion to move in.
  • HUGE pile of parts donated from Eagle Circuits. I am writing a super simple inventory program that will let us search for parts and find out what bins they are in. So far I've found 100 different parts in just 5 bins, including some PIC microcontrollers.
  • Working on some basic analog electronics classes (more info soon).
  • Steve Adams is working on an FPGA class.
  • Laser Committee - William Petefish
    • Reminder: You don't have to join the committee to be trained on how to use the laser.
    • Reminder: Don't save your work to the desktop of the computer. It WILL be erased. Save it in the proper folder on the network drive.
    • Reminder: The laser committee does have a list. ([email protected]) USE IT if there is an issue with the laser. Don't try to repair it yourself.
    • Reminder: If YOU break the laser, let the committee know so we can fix it.
    • The laser is currently down while we are waiting for a new power supply for the laser tube. We have been checking into power supplies and have one that looks promising, BUT the company selling them is being very slow. It, however, has been ordered.
  • Mill Committee (HAAS) - Bryan Gangwere
  • Operations and Facilities Committee - Andrew LeCody
  • Photography Lab (Darkroom Committee) - Steve Reeves
  • Darkroom - I've begun an informal logistical/feasibility analysis of setting up a darkroom in the new space.
  • Is there sufficient demand? Interested parties should email [email protected] and let me know they exist.
  • Is there any way at all to have a place with water supply AND drainage?
  • I currently believe there is a lack of sufficient demand for a dedicated darkroom. However, I do believe there is some demand for one from both photographers and screen printers.
  • I wonder if it wouldn't be more practical to build a "wet work" room that could double as a darkroom upon occasion. I believe it's noteworthy that we do not have much in the way of a shop sink setup in the workshop area. A place to clean up from projects that's not the kitchen or the bathroom seems desirable.
  • Failing demand and/or logistics for a plumbed darkroom, I plan to seek out a place in the building that we can at least make light-tight for limited activity like loading film.

We had a meeting Monday night. The two items discussed were the "Grand Opening Party" (unscheduled until the space is better setup) and how to make the distiction between what the committee does and how we can assist members with their needs and requests. There is an ongoing issue of how to get classes scheduled.

  • Most equipment is close to final location. Waiting on drywall & paint in Metals and Woods for final locations.
  • Have issued electrical drawing to three electricians for pricing.
  • We propose renting an one-man scissor lift for installing the Dust Collection System next weekend. Make it a Duct Instalation Training Session.
  • Compressed air is going to be a major work project. Do we DIY or sub it out?
  • Projects that are comming up include a powder coat cabinet, a paint booth, and re-finishing work tables,
