Do's and Don'ts

1. Make sure you know your glass. Use only compatible glass with the same COE.
2. Always put down a piece of thin-fire paper on the kiln base, under your glass. This will prevent your glass from sticking to the kiln base.
3. Use the metal trivets provided to set down the kiln. Do not put the hot kiln down on any wood or plastic surface or on top of the microwave.
4. Do not open then kiln in the cooling phase. The cool air can damage the kiln and cause the glass to crack violently.
5. When firing dichroic glass ramp up slower then usual. Dichroic glass is very susceptible to thermal shock and will crack if heated up too quickly.
6. It is not healthy to breath in the powdery dust left behind by the thin-fire paper. Please knock it off carefully into a garbage can and minimize getting it airborne. Some people may like to wear a respirator mask while doing this - they are available on top of the tall metal cabinet.

Example Schedules

This is only an example firing schedule. All kilns, microwaves and projects are different; you will need to practice to learn what works best to get the results you want.

Full Fuse of 2 layers of 3mm glass 2" square

1. 5 min at 50% power
2. 3 min at 80% power
3. 2 min at 100% power
4. Look in the kiln and add time in 30 second intervals for desired results
