Required Tool Trainings
ROAST Training
Required Operations and Safety Training (ROAST) Training is first-level basic training that new users must complete before using DMS equipment, as specified by the DMS Tool Classification Matrix (also called the Tool Matrix). These courses contain information on safety requirements, emergency procedures, basic operations, and clean-up and maintenance tasks.
There are four levels of training in the Tool Matrix. Some DMS tools require ROAST Training, while others do not. Some work areas require an Orientation Training, while others do not, and these trainings are determined by the work area's Committee. When in doubt, contact the Committee Chair for more information.
- To find what training is required for a given tool, look at the Tools page.
- To determine whether a DMS tool has been listed and classified in the Tool Matrix, look at the Tool Classification Matrix.
- If a tool is not listed in the Matrix, contact Alex Rhodes (Talk name @AlexRhodes) or Chris Marlow (Talk name @John_Marlow) to be added to the Matrix.
- To sign up for a ROAST Training class for a given tool, keep watching the DMS Calendar for classes. At this time, most basic trainings are instructor led.
Instructor-Led ROAST Training
Each Committee develops and delivers ROAST Training classes. Look for upcoming classes on the DMS Calendar.
Online ROAST Training
As of March 31, 2018, ROAST Training online course development efforts are continuing, and help is greatly needed to convert instructor-led classes into online courses. Anyone can help with these efforts! Take a look at the Training Development SIG page for more information.
To see what online courses are currently available, log on to https://learn.dallasmakerspace.org. DMS members can log in using your DMS user ID and password.
Optional Trainings
DMS is a learning organization, and members are encouraged to take any class, in any area, at any time.
