Hi guys,

The time is upon us to formalize the organization of the group.

Until now, the only organization was a loose group of "coordinators"
we picked back in March or June.

Most decisions have been made by people stepping up and volunteering
to take charge. This is what other hackerspaces call a "Do-ocracy".

We will have things we'd like to decide in a larger group fashion, and
I think voting is the way to do it.

Is there any issue with requiring a simple majority of the paying members?

Ed

To help with this, I've updated the ToDo list in the wiki with a rough
outline of the steps we need to go through to reach full independence as
a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation.

I suspect we still need to tweak this list a little as it's based on the
steps the DPRG went through some years ago. We followed the guidelines
in the Nolo Press book on non-profit laws with a pub date of 1996. The
IRS and State of TX have changed a few things since then. I'll grab the
latest 2009 edition of the book and do some updates next week but this
gives you at a least a rough idea of where we're going.

It looks like a lot of work but if it's done methodically and correctly,
it really doesn't take that long. Jump through all the right hoops at
the right times and it's not too bad.
