New Laser Cutter

Our new laser cutter from Full Spectrum Laser is Dallas Makerspace’s biggest tool purchase yet.

With its high-power 120 Watt CO2 Laser, you can cut through thick materials like 3/4″ wood and acrylic. And, you can still dial it down to effectively cut paper and cardboard. It also has a 36″x24″ cutting area which can accommodate objects as deep as 24″. That’s a full set of Printrbot parts in a single go!

As always, membership and a training class are required to operate the laser. If a class is not already on the calendar, inquire about the next class through the mailing list. There is a small fee of $1 per 10 minutes to cover the cost of consumables.

It can make more than just Raspberry Pi cases! View examples of member projects here.

I was curious about your laser cutter I noticed it said I need a laser cutter class and a membership prior to use and I was curious of the price of both of those

I have a need for cutting 3mm carbon steel. Would the this device be able to handle that type of material?

Our lasers cutters would not be able to handle this. We have handheld plasma cutters that could. And we have plans to have a CNC plasma cutter up and running in the future.

I live in SE Dallas area and interested in a co2 laser…although not from Full Spectrum. However,
I’d like to process some materials for about a month to get an idea of what it can and cant do. Do you offer a short membership option like 1 or 2 months?

    Thanks.

      Hi Jeff,

Membership autodrafts from month to month but there is no cancellation fee. Cancel at any time. With that being said, we encourage our members to think of our space as a community they belong to and not a place to just use for a couple months. Your best bet to get a feel for what we offer and expect is to come into one of our weekly Thursday night Tour nights. Starts every Thursday at 7 with tours starting every 10 minutes or so.

    Hi
I have a need for 5″ belles to be cut from wood.
Unfortunately I need them soon. I would need about 30 of them made.
Please let me know if this is possible!
Thank you so much for your time!

I’m looking to cut a thin flat sheet of wood into hexagon pieces. Could a non member pay a small fee to have this done for him?

Israel, Thank you for your interest in Dallas Makerspace. We offer a section of our TALK forum for making such requests, and you can feel free to post the inquiry there. We want to encourage you to come check us out and consider whether it might be more beneficial to become a member so you can do these kinds of tasks (and a million other things) for yourself, but if you still want to ask someone to do this for you, browse here to make a post in the Makertrade category.

I am a venezuelan grandmother painter visiting my daugther in North Dallas. I used to decor MDF tempates with religious arrangements. In this days I need somebody who can cut MDF of 5 and 9 milimeters in diferent shapes. For example I am painting crosses of 9” x 7” and need more basic MDF crosses. My question is if you can cut a little quantity of this, perhaps 25 units. Waiting for you, sincerely Margarita Ventura.

Can any of the lasers cut and laser engrave EVA Foam for cosplay? Of a thinness of 1/4 in to 1/16 in EVA FOAM

    • jast January 23, 2020 Reply

Yes, we have lasers which can cut/engrave EVA foam, and Cosplay has a large representation at Dallas Makerspace. You should swing by on a Saturday morning for a tour, or post to our Talk forum about your questions and interests as many of our members have probably done something along similar lines and would love to help.
